Philippa and Mat are two very creative and fun people to be around, and I’d really enjoyed getting to know them in the lead up to their wedding day at the Malthouse, part of The Olde Bell in Hurley, Berkshire. If you’ve seen their pre- wedding photography from January, you’d know that the snow is a meaningful part of their story together – so it couldn’t have been more perfect to find gentle little snowflakes falling as I arrived in the morning. The sparkly embellishments on Philippa’s gorgeous Rachel Simpson shoes even remind me of snowflakes!
Philippa had been busy collecting books from charity shops to create some really original and pretty centrepieces, and borrowed more from the wood-paneled library of The Malthouse to arrange them in stacks on each table. It was all very laid-back when I arrived, with Philippa and her parents helping to arrange things in the dining area, and Mat and his brother Paddy meeting up with friends and family in the medieval coaching inn next door. Philippa got ready in one of the Ilse Crawford-designed suites upstairs, with the lovely Sarah-Kate of Thorne Brides in charge of hair and make-up.
The Jenny Packham bridal gown was a real stunner as you can see – I just adored it – and suited Philippa so beautifully with a nod t0 1920s glamour. She’d also bought a gorgeous headpiece (the day before, hee hee! Love a laid-back bride!) and it all fitted together perfectly with a little twist of vintage. Mat’s tweed-style suit was such a good match of style too. All the lovely flowers in blush and blue and cream are by Sonning Flowers.
I have to say grateful thanks to the staff at The Olde Bell – what a lovely, welcoming team they are, always so helpful and enabling things to run perfectly smoothly. It is a great venue! I hope you enjoy looking at the details of this special day – Philippa and Mat particularly searched for somewhere with a walled garden where they could have some photographs on their own, and we had the added bonus of the greenhouse and another gorgeous little outbuilding to make use of too. The ceremony was full of warmth and joy with everyone packing into the room to hear poetry readings (including one that used the line ‘I carry your heart’, which is inscribed inside their wedding rings) and the vows. What a wonderful day – thank you Mat & Philippa for allowing me to capture these memories for you, I am very much looking forward to putting your photograph album together!
