Today I’m going back to the Spring for Emily and Joel’s central Guildford wedding followed by reception at the beautiful Gate Street Barn. Em is one of those people that everyone loves to spend time with, so watching her marry Joel – who brings out the very best in her – was an absolute joy from start to finish. I started off at the family home in Guildford where extra Orders Of Service were being folded (it was a big wedding!) and hair & make-up was in progress. Florist Gill Pike had dropped round the fresh white bouquet and buttonholes before heading off to decorate the arch at Gate Street Barn with arrangements for later. Emily’s former music teacher and family friend had written her a wedding day piece of music – the cones for the confetti later were also made of sheet music, a French horn piece that she used to play (little touches of personality like that really make me smile!). I love all the moments of anticipation and adrenalin that you can see as Emily’s mum helps her to dress, and I love the look on her dad’s face as she descends the stairs… but most of all, I adore the little fleeting moment after that as she’s gone through the door, and her dad takes a moment to reflect on the daughter-turned-bride. This is what makes my job a really very special privilege.
Joel’s family are from the Isle of Man, and with his 3 brothers to catch up with (as well as extended family) there was a lot of laughter throughout the day. Following the service at Chertsey Street Baptist Church, we went on to Gate Street Barn where the tables were being laid with favours of Manx honey (thank you, it was YUM!) and phials of wildflower seed that ecologist Joel had put together to plant little window boxes of colour in time for summer. The firepit was lit later on ready for marshmallow toasting, meaning that guests could either dance indoors or chill out wrapped in blankets, and enjoy each other’s company right through the evening. (Emily: I heard ‘I Wanna Dance With Somebody’ on the radio yesterday and it will now and always completely remind me of your wedding, ha!).
If you’re looking for a Gate Street Barn wedding photographer, I’ve been there 3 times already this year and it’s one of my faves – do get in touch, I’d love to chat about taking your pictures!
