Nikki and Alex contacted me about their Guildford wedding photography a couple of years after I’d photographed the wedding of Nikki’s sister Hannah to Peter. Starting off from the same family home, different Guildford church, same florist, same reception venue at the Clock Barn in Godalming… I knew there were some of Hannah’s pictures that Nikki loved and wanted to do something similar, but at the same time I felt that weddings are so very personal – and with a different groom’s side of the family, and different friends – that it was a creative challenge to find and show the elements distinctive to their day. I really love the quiet buzz of anticipation on a wedding morning, so it was great to be back with Nikki’s family to catch up with everyone while they got ready with hair and make-up. Alex and his ushers, meanwhile, were meeting down at St John’s Stoke to greet guests.
As before, Nikki’s dad is a wonderful gardener and had grown most of the wedding flowers in their own back garden. Family friend Jane had gathered and arranged them – everyone particularly commented on the candelabra arrangements she’d used for table centrepieces at the Clock Barn Hall. I’d been down at the venue the day before to say hello and see everyone busy as they dressed tables and strung lights. Nikki’s mum had made the gorgeous cake, as well as adding delicate lace edging to the veil, so it was a real family effort to turn the day into something so beautiful. We had to do quite a bit of rain-dodging on the day but you’ll see below that the best surprise was reserved for the end of the evening, when friends Holly and Jon popped in with their day-old baby! That’s a committed friend! I hope you enjoy browsing these snippets of a very happy day.
One of my favourite parts is “Who gives this woman…”
(I always feel privileged to have the best view at a wedding – look at this little glance, I love it!)
It always helps to have a good working knowledge of the characters in Ben & Holly’s Little Kingdom when trying to win around the younger guests… Gaston!
Doesn’t Clock Barn Hall look fabulous with the fairy lights and floral arrangements?!
